    Parent Jobs and Training Dates

    Hello Swim Team Parents,

In order to have efficient and successful swim meets, parental involvement is key. As parents, we set the tone for the swim meets by being engaged, excited, and organized. Now that our team is back in the RSL, we will need to follow RSL requirements regarding parental jobs.

For many of our new families, please do not feel overwhelmed. These jobs are all relatively easy and do not require you to miss your own children swimming their events. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have, so please do not hesitate to contact me.

    2022 Guidelines:

Every family is required to have at least one family member trained in one of the below jobs with an (*). Even if you never perform that job this season, each family is required to be trained in at least one of them. This season, the RSL Training Committee has even combined training sessions so one person can attend one session and walk away with three job certifications.

List of all jobs for every swim meet:

The RSL has combined three jobs into one training session: Head Scorekeeper, Clerk of the Course, and Head Timer. This is amazing. I highly recommend this option, along with Stroke and Turn Judge.

For the first time ever - the RSL is offering a "Train the trainer" environment. This allows for a person that does attend a RSL training event for the "Head Scorekeeper, Clerk of the Course, and Head Timer class" to return to their pool and "train" someone who did not attend. This will be very helpful in cases where we are short handed at a swim meet and we can quickly train a parent or relative on how to do a job.

Head Scorekeeper, Clerk of Course, and Head Timer - all being offered in one class, can train the trainer
Starter - must do class, no train the trainer option
Stroke and Turn - must do in class and online portion (we will reimburse if there is an online charge), no train the trainer option
Referee - must do class, no train the trainer option, must also attend Referee meeting on June 11th
Computer Operator - no required training, but must watch the tutorial on SwimTopia training, at least one computer operator must be Head ScoreKeeper certified

In an effort to make training for these jobs easier, we are hosting a training session at our pool on Wednesday, June 8th at 6:30pm. Our children will have swim team practice that evening from 5-7pm. I'd like to see if anyone is interested in having the kids finish practice and go inside to watch a movie and have pizza or something like that until the parents are done training. Maybe we can get a few of the older kids to watch them...

If you are interested in attending any of the other below offered training sessions, you are welcome to. All sessions are open to all parents across the RSL. I would expect many from other pools to be at our session, too.

I will need to know what job you train for, after you've completed the class.  Feel free to let me know that day or text me.

As we get closer to the meets, we will open up the Job Sign Up page where parents can go in and volunteer for the jobs each meet.

Let me know if you have any concerns or issues. We will make this work for everyone :)

    Thanks,

    Kim
